Learn how to begin a medical career |
Medical ProfessionTraditional medical schools are difficult. The pre-med programs and medical schools that train traditional doctors are hard to gain admission to, extremely difficult to keep up with, and seldom easy to pay for. The good news for people wishing to enter the medical profession is that many of the careers and occupations in the medical profession require certificates and degrees that can be earned without going through the ten to twelve year ordeal of medical school. Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, vocational nurses, nursing assistants, and licensed practical nurses are all within this professional category. Most of the people involved in patient examination and diagnosis are graduates of programs that are outside the standard medical school structure. This includes the trained personnel who perform sonograms, ultrasound scans and x-rays. The medical profession needs skilled workers in the laboratories that diagnose illnesses. Clinical laboratory technologists are highly trained and hold degrees in their professional specialties, but few of them have been to medical school. Of course, the medical profession could not function without its administrative workers. Medical and health services managers, medical and health information technicians, medical chemists, and other medical professionals are all part of the teams that save lives and cure illnesses. It doesn't take medical degrees to fill those important positions. |
